Support Topic of the Month
For support as a group we will be reading "Upbringing: A Discussion Handbook For Parents Of Young Children" by James Stenson. We will discuss the book at our monthly parent meetings.
We will be reading "True Devotion to Mary" by Saint Louis De Montfort. Discussion will be held during the morning Art classes.
SPIRITUALITY
How do you nurture your children's spirituality? And more importantly, how about your own? It can be very difficult, if not impossible, to foster spirituality in our children when our own soulds are in need of care. Often, when the dishes are piled up, the cat is waiting to be fed and the schoolwork is just not getting done, we find ourselves feeling too harried to say a prayer, too busy to stop for a Rosary.
But isn't that when we need it most?
Some suggestions for fostering spirituality:
-
Start your day with spiritual growth. Perhaps retire just a little earlier in the evening, or stealing a few moments after the kids are in bed. Use this time to pray a rosary, or just spend some quiet time talking with Our Lord and His Blessed Mother.
-
Try to get to Confession and daily Mass with the kids. If this is not possible, don't omit daily prayer together. As one homeschooling mom once observed, when the day is too busy for religion, nothing seems to go right. But when you make time FIRST for Mass or Catechism and prayer, it's strange how the day's work just flows easier, no matter how much there is to be done.
-
Offer up your daily chores. Make each one a gift to God. He has blessed you with souls to care for, for while, and teh small things you do during the day for your family will bring grace to both you and them, especially when done in His name.
-
Try to pray the rosary as a family. A simple evening together in prayer can transform a family for the better, and will foster holiness in your children as well as calm your soul.
-
Seek out a spiritual advisor. A mentor whom you can look to for guidance is a treasure.
-
Older children can spend quiet time during the morning or evening with their catechism. This is a ritual that often becomes a beloved lifelong habit!
Remember, we are all at different places in our spiritual journey- sometimes we need a little gudance, sometimes a lot. But we are never alone unless we choose to be.
